General
Next week, we will see Hearthstone's new card backs being built from scratch.

No Hearthstone card collection would be complete without a vast collection of snazzy card backs. There are so many of them (143 in the end), and although they all have the same basic design (a rectangular field with the Hearthstone symbol in the center), they vary enormously: for example, this card has a rainbow and clouds on it, this one has a feather and this one has a a pizza. 1]

If you've ever wondered how the backs of cards are made, next week is your chance to find out: starting May 18, Blizzard will host a "Card Back Production Live Stream" on Twitch, where senior concept artist Luke Mancini, will show you the entire process of card back production for the month of September.

Part 1, beginning at 1:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. EST), will focus on the concept phase ("ideation and rough sketches"), leading to the final design choices for the new card back; Part 2, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. PT (4:00-7:00 p.m. EST), will focus on "color and hard lines with" begin to put it all together, and on May 21, "we dot the i's, cross the t's, and walk through the rest of the finishing touches."

Once the third stream is complete, the final (or near-final) version of the card will be complete.

Unlike the live stream that took BossLogic all day to draw the key art for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Hearthstone's card backstream will be interactive: Mancini and lead FX artist Hadidjah Chamberlin will be on hand to answer questions and discuss their work during the session, making it a more engaging and enjoyable experience.
