Rochester Institute of Technology's Class of 2020 will have a slightly different graduation ceremony this year. For the lockdown, the university's Electronic Games Research Group decided to recreate the graduation ceremony in Minecraft. A stage, podium, chairs, and custom graduation gown skins are provided.
Graduates are called by their user names and walk on stage. Speeches by the graduates follow.
While the ceremony all sounds pretty normal, the Society has created an in-game version of the RIT President to address the students as they walk on stage. The Rector is role-played by one of the society's members and is represented by a Minecraft Iron Golem with the Rector's picture on its face. The golem, dressed in a suit, tosses diplomas to the students as a congratulatory gesture.
This is just part of a larger project being undertaken by RIT's Electronic Games Association. The association is building a college campus in Minecraft, block by block, bit by bit. From the comparison video below, it looks like they did a great job.
If for some reason you want to watch the ceremony, it is open to anyone with Minecraft. The awards ceremony will take place on May 15 at 8 p.m., but those who don't have the game can watch the live stream on Twitch, Youtube, or Mixer.
