Epic Mega Sale started yesterday, but no one noticed as "GTA5" crashed the store

On May 14 at 11 a.m. ET, the Epic Games Store began offering a free copy of Grand Theft Auto 5. At 11:01 a.m., the Epic Games Store teetered on the edge of a cliff, with a deluge of gamers flooding the site to get their hands on perhaps the largest free Epic item to date. Work continued all day (and all night) to get this situation under control.

The giveaway was meant to kick off Epic's mega sale, which was largely overlooked because we were all too busy watching GTA5 torch the storefront time and again. However, it appears that Epic is re-announcing this sale. [The Epic Mega Sale runs through June 11 and includes Assassin's Creed Origins, Rainbow Six Siege, Borderlands 3, Hob (Hob is great), Watch Dogs, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, And many more. There is also an "Epic Coupon," which is a $10 discount that can be used on qualifying games, add-ons of $15 or more, or in local currency.

So, for example, "Control" is half off at $30, with an additional $10 off at checkout for $20. Each time you use a coupon, you get a new coupon, so the discount basically lasts for the duration of the sale.

Free game giveaways will also continue throughout the sale, and free entertainment may continue as well: the free Grand Theft Auto 5 was announced last week as a mystery game, and the next free giveaway will be another surprise. Could it be "Red Dead Redemption 2"? Almost certainly not, but if it turns out to be another big game when the curtain rises, watch out.
