Mojang has revealed that in honor of Minecraft's 11th anniversary (counting from its public alpha launch in 2009), the company is rebranding and working on ideas for a new game. However, according to the announcement, Minecraft remains the center of the Mojang universe, which is not surprising given that over 200 million copies have been sold.

Studio head Helen Chiang shared the numbers in a blog post that also detailed how Minecraft and its players have adapted in recent months. in March, Mojang announced that to help schools begin to close, Minecraft released a free educational world on Marketplace, and last weekend several graduation ceremonies took place in the blocky sandbox.

During Minecraft's 10th anniversary, Mojang announced that 176 million That's 126 million players per month. This would include the free-to-play version in China, which boasted over 300 million players in 2019.

And when large numbers of people aren't playing, they are watching it. Last year, it was the most viewed game on YouTube, with a whopping 100.2 billion views. The runner-up, Fortnite, had 60.9 billion views.
