After rebate, this RTX 2070 Super-powered gaming PC is cheaper than building your own

Now that Intel has officially announced its 10th generation "Comet Lake" desktop CPUs, pre-built PCs with the latest hardware will begin to appear on the market (Maingear, for example, is already taking reservations). This also means that vendors will clear out their "old" inventory at attractive discounts to make room for the latest models, which is exactly what Newegg is doing with this MSI desktop.

On sale is the Infinite X Plus model (9SD-468US), marked down from $1,949 (too high) to $1,699. In addition, a $200 mail-in rebate has been applied, bringing the price down to $1,499. In addition, a $50 Steam gift card will be given away.

By all accounts, this deal is a great deal. And even without the rebate or Steam card, you are still getting more than if you bought the same parts and assembled this PC yourself.

This is an apples to apples approach to parts. By replacing some of the parts, a similar PC can be built for about the asking price or a little less. For example, an 850W 80 Plus Platinum power supply is excessive, and you can save a bit by building your own.

However, it fits the overall theme of this PC. It is a high-end desktop with a water-cooled Core i7-9700KF processor, 16GB of RAM, GeForce RTX 2070 Super graphics card, 1TB SSD + 3TB HDD, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

Per part, it cost $1,800 (including Windows) to assemble an equivalent PC. It comes with both classic black and transparent side panels.

At normal prices, I would skip this build and wait for the Comet Lake desktops from both Nvidia (Ampere) and AMD (RDNA 2) to appear with new GPUs. However, with the discounts being applied, you can skip the wait while getting a really great bargain.
