First "Warcraft 3: Reforged" Balance Update Coming Soon

It feels like a year has passed since the release of Warcraft 3: Reforged, but according to the date of my review, it has only been a few months. Since then, Blizzard has not said much about it, but now they are breaking their silence, promising a roadmap and sharing what they are working on.

While the state of arrival has not been great, Blizzard has released several patches, addressing bugs and asynchronous issues, as well as improving quality of life across campaign, custom game, and versus modes Blizzard is working on the first balance patch, which is also being worked on and will appear on the PTR this week.

"Each of our balance patches aims to provide a variety of strategies for new and returning players of all skill levels while ensuring pro-level competitiveness," Blizzard said. Blizzard said.

Many features from the original game did not make it into "Reforged," but Blizzard plans to reintroduce things like clans, ranked battle ladders, and custom campaigns. Unfortunately, no date has been given for any of them, but Blizzard is ready to begin discussing the future direction of the game.

The developer update also details the ongoing changes Blizzard is making to matchmaking: because Reforged uses global matchmaking, latency has become an issue. Some players have expressed a strong desire to do away with this matchmaking altogether, but it appears that this will not be the end of the story. Instead, Blizzard has rolled out a server update and claims to have reduced high latency games by over 60% since May 4.

While it still feels like a lot of work needs to be done to bring "Reforged" up to the quality of the original, the upcoming balance patch apparently includes a "massive update." What that is will be revealed this week.
