Leaked video of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" reveals canceled campaign

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 4" has apparently decided to drop the campaign and spin its yarn with a digital comic, but that wasn't the original plan; Treyarch was struggling with an unconventional campaign until it was eventually canceled. That campaign never saw the light of day, but it appears to have been published on Reddit.

Thanks to ForeverDexus, you can see the campaign video featuring the CEO's rescue. Many elements of the game, including the map and UI, appear to be fairly well developed, but from the low-poly character models, it still appears to be an early build.

It's not that far off from Black Ops 4's multiplayer, which makes sense given that it was intended to be a 2v2 campaign, with players choosing different factions and playing against each other in a post-apocalyptic world, but this video gives no indication of such; Kotaku's report details the studio's race to complete it on time, which was eventually cut in early 2018.

A few months after the internal announcement, Treyarch confirmed that Black Ops 4 would not have a single-player mode, adding that a traditional campaign was never planned in the first place After development of a 2v2 version fell through, work on a single-player campaign turned out to be not the case, as it was switched to a new version. Of course, that was also cancelled and replaced by Blackout, a battle royale mode.

ForeverDexus also dug up pre-alpha Black Ops 4 footage of weapon and environmental damage testing.

According to some leaks, Cold War is where Call of Duty is headed next; Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War is the most likely name, but there are rumors that it will be Call of Duty: Vietnam.
