Total War: Warhammer 2" Peaks in Player Numbers After Greenskin Update

"Total War: Warhammer" is approaching its third year since launch, and as if to prove that orc invasions and large-scale fantasy battles will never go out of style, the game currently has more players attempting world domination than at its 2017 launch high, enjoying a surge in popularity.

Players began their march on May 21, according to findings by PCGamesN, with the number of players reaching a record high of nearly 85,000, up by more than 10,000. Normally, such spikes are seen during free weekends or major sales, but this update was specifically targeted at the greenskin faction.

The WAAAGH! update overhauled orcs and goblins in both the Mortal Empires campaign and the regular Vortex campaign through DLC. It's a massive and wide-ranging update that turbo-charges the big green enemies by throwing new mechanics and the new "WAAAGH!" system into the pot. They may be a bit overpowered, but they are fast becoming my favorite faction group.

The DLC is no slouch either, with a new elven faction and a clan of goblins and orcs with an eye for food. Both factions have quirky and unique mechanics, but the Grom the Punch's magic cauldron is a standout, allowing goblins to create special (and gruesome) dishes to specialize their armies. There are ingredients to hunt, new challenges to meet, and haggard troll food merchants who will sell you horrible treats.

It is increasingly common for games to reach their zenith years after release, especially live-service games, but even the odd single-player game, like The Witcher 3, which skyrocketed in popularity after the Netflix show aired, has made a tremendous comeback have been making a comeback.
