Multiple new game modes will soon be added to Legends of Luneterra.

"Legends of Runeterra" is the best CCG on PC (or mobile). It sometimes feels like I'm shouting into the void when I say that, but months after I reviewed it, I'm still playing this League of Legends spin-off card game almost every day. However, it looks like I'll have even more reason to play it in June, July, and beyond. Legends of Lunetera has two major new game modes, a cosmetic rewards seasonal event, and, of course, a major update coming, starting with new cards.

Announced in a new video by Executive Producer Jeff Zhou and Design Director Andrew Yip, the first major update coming to Legends of Luneterra is just a month away with the release of Gauntlet on June 26! It is. This new competitive mode will be time-limited and usually run on weekends, introducing new deck-building rules and encouraging players to ramp up their theory building; the first Gauntlet, starting June 26, is really just test play with standard rules, once the system is up and running, Riot plans to add a second Gauntlet mode. No duplicates allowed.

A few weeks later, Legends of Runeterra will debut a new Lab mode on July 8; like Gauntlets, Labs will change the rules, but the emphasis here will be on wild experimentation and fun rather than competition. Details on what the first Lab will look like are scarce, but according to Riot, it will "include quirky champion team-ups, unpredictable strategies, and an accelerated start to the action."

The event will also take place in July. Events are special seasonal promotions that tie cosmetic items, quests, gauntlets and labs together around a specific theme. Once an event is active, players can earn limited-time rewards just for playing, with optional battle passes for additional rewards available for a fee According to Riot, the theme of the first event, which will begin in July, is a secret for now.

Finally, new cards will be added to LoR in August. This pattern will be repeated every two months, with an entirely new region released every six months (think of this as a sort of proper expansion), which will be the focus of the next three card releases. Riot stated in a press release, "Our goal is to release more cards more often and create a continuous wave of new mechanics and champions."

In addition to all of this, Legends of Runeterra will receive a number of smaller updates throughout the rest of 2020, including improvements to the deck builder, in-game leaderboards, spectator mode, and more cosmetic options. According to Riot, tournaments and single-player modes are also in the works.

If you haven't played Legends of Runeterra yet, but like card games, I highly recommend checking it out. There are no booster packs and you can acquire new cards at a ridiculous pace. More importantly, it's a very fun and relatively balanced alternative to Hearthstone that won't wreck your wallet. For more information, see our review.

Legends of Runeterra is free to play in base and can be downloaded here.
