Escape from Tarkov" Surpasses 200,000 Concurrent Users and Bans 3,000 Cheaters Amid Reset

The hardcore survival FPS "Escape From Tarkov" had a pretty big week this week, with the game completely resetting its progression, banning 3,000 cheaters, and breaking records for concurrent players with an online population of over 200,000. Nikita Buyanov, COO of Battlestate Games, cheekily posted the record-breaking on Reddit, asking players about the latest patch, "How's it goin?" and added, "Thank you for your dedication and interest," he continued. We are now over 200,000 people online and we set a record!" He continued.

Earlier this week, Escape From Tarkov's closed beta underwent a game-wide reset, wiping thousands of players' progress. The wipe coincided with the release of a new patch and the start of a new season of gameplay, forcing players to start their game quests and progression all over again. Once this season began, apparently many felt the need to cheat; Battlestate Games did not like this and subsequently banned 3,000 cheating accounts.

Escape From Tarkov was released as an alpha version in 2016, but did not garner widespread interest until late last year when it launched a massive advertising campaign on Twitch. Tarkov features extensive gun customization, survival mechanics, RPGs and MMOs, a clever blend of MMO and battle royale, and a noticeably small female population make this a hardcore FPS. Despite being a closed beta available only to those who pre-ordered the full game, it is clearly quite successful now; you can check out Escape From Tarkov on its official website.
