Outer Worlds" won the Nebula Award for Game of the Year.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America announced over the weekend that it has awarded The Outer Worlds the Nebula Award for Game Writing.

The award was initially only open to novels and short stories, but has gradually expanded to include film and television scripts, drama presentations, and, as of 2018, game writing.

Other nominees were Disco Elysium, Outer Wilds, Magicians Workshop, and Fate Accessibility Toolkit. Of these, The Outer Wilds is the most conventional, both in the presentation of the story and the content, but there are some scenes and characters that are undeniably well-written.

To be honest, I thought Disco Elysium had this one beat. In fact, Disco Elysium ruined The Outer Walls for me. There is no other game like it, and the quality of its script and the complexity of its subject matter are major factors in that. The Outer Wilds also gave us an inventive and wonderful story that combines gameplay and narrative in a way that would be difficult to replicate outside of this interactive medium.

Last year's winner was Netflix's "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch."
