Paradox Establishes New Grand Strategy Studio

Paradox Interactive is expanding into Spain with the opening of its new Paradox Tinto studio in Barcelona, focusing on Europa Universalis 4, one of the best strategy games on the PC, and taking over from Paradox Development Studio. I will take over, but will eventually move on to new grand strategy games.

When I started covering Paradox 10 years ago, there was only one studio, PDS, but acquisitions and new studios have brought that number to seven. The most recent acquisitions are Triumph Studios, developer of Age of Wonders, and BattleTech's Harebrained Schemes.

Johan Andersson, creative director of PDS and designer of Europa Universalis 4, will lead the new team as studio manager.

"I am excited and grateful for this opportunity to start a new studio in a new location and to apply my decades of knowledge building games and development studios. My goal is to assemble a team and create a fully functioning studio to continue to develop the Europa Universalis brand and later design and develop new grand strategy games."

There are still no hints as to what these new grand strategy games will be, and whether they will be completely new or sequels to earlier games, such as "Victoria 2," which was released in 2010, but for the past few years, Whenever a Paradox game is announced, there is no shortage of people who predict that "Victoria 3" will finally be released. Someday, they may be right.
