With the closure of Double Fine Presents, "Gang Beasts" is now self-published.

In 2014, Double Fine entered publishing with Double Fine Presents, a company founded to help indie developers launch projects. Then Microsoft started throwing cash around and bought Double Fine, putting the publishing division's fate in limbo.

Tim Schafer said last year that the situation was "complicated" and that it might not make business sense to have a publisher within another publisher. Since then, Double Fine has not explicitly stated the future, or lack thereof, of the publishing division, but judging from a new blog post by Gang Beasts developer Boneloaf, it seems unlikely that the publishing division will be around much longer.

Gang Beasts launched in 2017 under Double Fine's publishing initiative, but the studio has now confirmed that it is "finished," leading the very angry Jelly Babies creators to strike out on their own.

"We love Double Fine and they have been really great to us. What Tim and his company have built has been great, but with Double Fine being acquired by Xbox Game Studios last year, Double Fine Presents is coming to an end, and we think it's a good time for Boneloaf to strike out on its own."

Currently planned is a new build 1.13, which will fix the wheel stage, support online game mode, and provide optimizations and fixes. A Steam beta will be released next month, and at launch the game will be compatible with all platforms, including the Oculus Rift.

Boneloaf also promises to add new stages and costumes in the future, with more details to be announced soon.

Cheers, Eurogamer.
