General
Doom" has been ported to the PlayDate portable game console with a crank-type controller.

Playdate is a portable game console with a crank-type controller. Sure, it has a D-pad and at least two buttons, but most importantly, it has a crank. Oh, and you can play Doom, too.

Game developer Nic Magnier posted a video of his port on Twitter earlier this week. The game does not appear to be suitable for this device, which has a monochrome screen and, again, a crank. But whether or not "Doom" is actually interesting on any device is not the point; what matters is whether the device can run "Doom." It is not so strange to play Doom on a cranked console, since one can play Doom on a printer, on an oscilloscope, on an ATM, and even inside Doom.

As you can see in the video embedded above, the crank is not actually used in this port. On Twitter, Mania stated that this ported version is only the "first iteration" and that the crank may be rotated in the future. He then posted a GIF of the crank being used to fire a Gatling gun.

Playdate is not actually available for purchase yet, although it is scheduled for release in 2020. Chris suggested some games that would be suitable for Playdate.
