GTA Online and Red Dead Online will close this afternoon in support of Black Lives Matter.

Rockstar Games announced that GTA Online and Red Dead Online will be closed for two hours today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Japan time "in memory of George Floyd." Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25, an incident that has led to ongoing protests against police violence and racism in the United States and around the world.

Through its Charity Navigator website, Rockstar also supports the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Equal Justice Initiative, National Black Child Development Institute, and other civil rights organizations.

According to Kotaku, other Take-Two games, including NBA 2K, Dragon City, and Monster Legends, will also be taken offline to show support for Black Lives Matter.

Taking the games offline for a few hours on Thursday afternoon is only a gesture, and as material support, 2K Games yesterday increased funding to the 2K Foundation program by another $1 million to "expand our mission to combat racial injustice and inequality in black communities worldwide."

2K Games stated.

In 2018, 2K partnered with Microsoft to launch a program "to help underserved communities across the United States."
