Summer competitions will be online-only again this year.

Summer Games Done Quick, the annual fine weather extravaganza for serious speedrunners, will be held entirely online this year. Usually, Games Done Quick events are held in front of a live audience, but organizers said this will not be possible in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We want to thank the community for their patience while we figure out the best way to move forward with Summer Games Done Quick 2020. We are excited to continue showcasing the world's most talented speedrunners while adhering to best practices to keep everyone safe during a global pandemic."

For viewers watching GDQ from home (i.e., most viewers), this really doesn't change anything. For runners who want to participate, however, some adjustments will be necessary. Existing speedrunners will have to fill out a new form for the online event that will be sent out tomorrow. The volunteer situation will also change, but the call for applications will not be reopened; instead, remote volunteers will be selected from the existing pool.

Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online, officially called Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online, will be held August 16-23 to benefit Doctors Without Borders. More information is available at gamesdonequick.com.
