Mega Aquarium to Expand to Freshwater, Crocodile-Filled

The aquarium management sim "Megaquarium" has a nice new expansion focusing on freshwater creatures. Happily, this includes crocodiles. I like them because they are dinosaurs. However, I am not here to hear about how much I love this magnificent, living example of Earth's past. (Freshwater Frenzy is the first expansion pack for the Megaquarium, and while it is billed as "deluxe," it is not a full-fledged expansion pack that will revolutionize gameplay, and it is definitely deluxe compared to the crummy creatures we call DLC these days. Call me old-fashioned, but I like what I see in this offering.

Freshwater Frenzy includes about 30 new species of freshwater inhabitants, each with new aquascape requirements to be happy and productive fish. Speaking of productive, fish can be bred to produce and raise new offspring, or several species can be hybridized to create new color and pattern combinations. As mentioned, there are also reptiles. In addition to all the new elements, there are also five mission campaigns; early user reviews for the expansion on Steam are 95% positive.

We liked Megaquarium quite a bit upon release, with our own Philippa Warr calling it "a great tinkering game." An immersive game, she says: "Hours passed as we expanded the floor plan, placed new tanks, tinkered with pumps and filters, adjusted temperatures, and tried to keep both fish and visitors happy. We gave this game an 86, making it one of the best games of the year for 2018.

This is pretty good, so if you haven't played it yet, now might be the time. The base game is on sale until June 18. You can also add mods for a few years.

Megaquarium and its expansion Megaquarium are available on Steam: Freshwater Frenzy is on Steam. Anyway, do you have time to discuss alligators? No? Would you prefer a crocodile instead?
