Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" Reaches One Million Sales, Offers One Year's Worth of Content Updates to Commemorate

In celebration of "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" reaching one million sales, developer ArtPlay announced its content roadmap for 2020 and beyond.

On June 23, a Boss Revenge mode will be added, allowing players to control four bosses to fight against the regular protagonists. The four playable bosses appear to be Bloodless, Andrealfus, Batine, and Gremory. The June 23 update will also add a "chroma wheel" that will allow full control over the color palette of the characters, as opposed to the currently preset options.

Three new game modes will be released in Q3 2020: the first is VS mode, which from its description sounds a bit like Battle Royale. Enemies will fight for survival by "indirectly attacking each other" (both online and locally), so expect more traps and environmental kills than straight brawls.

Following that is Chaos mode, a boss rush that can be played solo or cooperatively, with random item drops and a different twist each time. This random element suggests that it could be an alternative to the controversial roguelike mode.

Finally, the single-player classic mode is like a mini-campaign, with five new stages featuring their own sub-bosses. Will this be similar to the excellent spin-off "Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon"? Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon" leaned much more toward a retro style than "Ritual of the Night."

Finally, Q4 2020 will see the release of Bloodstained's third playable character after Miriam and Zangez, and since ArtPlay has already stated that it will not be Dominic, fans are speculating who it might be instead My guess is Suzy. My guess is Suzy.

As a rare example of a crowdfunded game that not only actually launched, but (almost) lived up to backers' expectations and followed it up with long-term content support, it is nice to see "Bloodstained" doing well. Creator Koji Igarashi seems to really care about this project, which is refreshing after showing that pedigree is not always a good endgame, as in "Mighty Number Nine".

Boss Revenge Mode and Chroma Wheel will be added to Bloodstained on June 23 on all platforms except Switch.
