Klei, an indie studio that develops games such as "Don't Starve" and "Oxygen Not Included," has joined the ranks of game companies supporting the "Black Lives Matter" movement and today announced a $1 million donation to the ACLU and NAACP Legal Defense Fund, announcing a $1 million donation to the ACLU and NAACP Legal Defense Fund. [As members of the global community, we believe that each of us needs to do our part to make the world a safer, kinder, more equal place. As a studio, we have much to learn and are doing our best to contribute. We regularly donate to local and global causes, but generally prefer to do so quietly and without publicizing it," the studio wrote in the forum. 'In these instances, we feel it is important that others know that we stand with them.'
"Black lives matter and we stand with the black community. To take substantive action on civil rights, equality, and racial injustice, Klei is donating $1 million to the ACLU and NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
Bethesda Softworks also made a commitment to change today, pledging to donate $250,000 "to organizations engaged in the fight for racial justice" and to improve internal practices.
"Our company wants to be a positive force in fighting these wrongs and do our part to build a better future for all," Bethesda wrote on Twitter. "We stand behind #BlackLivesMatter. We will continue unwaveringly to add our voices (or silence when appropriate) to this cause whenever and however we can."
"But as we have all seen in the past month, words alone are not enough. We have had our eyes opened to the realities and unfair treatment that people of color face every day."
Along with financial commitments, Bethesda has also "established a Diversity Council to hold diversity-focused accountable and support employee-led groups," all employees to provide regular and mandatory training on unconscious bias, sensitivity, and allyship; improve and expand diversity-based recruiting; develop a mentorship program and "other support for employees of color and diverse communities to enhance support for leadership initiatives"
and committed to developing a "leadership initiative.
Klei and Bethesda join a number of companies that have made financial contributions to Black Lives Matter and related causes, including Humble Bundle, Ubisoft, Devolver Digital, Riot, Games Done Quick, EVO, and several other companies that have made monetary donations to Black Lives Matter and related causes, including Devolver Digital Indie digital store Itch.io also offers a bundle for racial justice and equality that includes more than 1,400 games.
