The latest update to CS:GO makes finding the enemy a little easier.

The latest update to CS:GO makes finding the enemy a little easier.

Despite being a perennial staple of PC gaming, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is not the most accessible game for beginners. Fortunately, Valve is attempting to solve this problem by making enemies immediately visible to players in its latest update.

A new option, "Increase Player Contrast," has been added to the game's advanced video settings. This adjustment allows for small visual adjustments to allow the player to see enemies from any distance without significantly affecting the visual design or giving too much of an advantage.

Enemies appear sharper at longer distances, the fog intensity of character models has been halved, and some maps (e.g. Dust 2) have been modified slightly. Some maps (e.g. Dust 2) have also been slightly modified. When a model is in front of a tonal background, a small halo is used to make the model stand out more.

To give you an idea of how long this has been an issue for the game, this is the era of Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: In the Source era, character models were modified with bright, flashy colors to increase visibility. It is nice to see that Valve has finally addressed this issue officially.

Counter-Strike is a brutal game where one mistake can cost you an entire round. It probably won't turn newcomers into sharpshooting pros, but with any luck, they may stay in the game long enough for it to become a non-issue.

The Boost Player Contrast update is available now.
