New Maps, Dinosaurs, and Commemorative Events for Ark: Survival Evolved Start Today

Ark: Survival Evolved is celebrating its 5th anniversary today with a major update featuring new maps, new dinosaurs, and most importantly, "Party Dodo".

The new update will launch at 4 p.m. BST / 11 a.m. EDT (PC) and will add the popular community-made mod "ISO: Crystal Isles" as an official map, developed by Isolde Gaming, Lillian and iSPEZZ, It boasts a fantastic and varied landscape of floating islands and lava reefs. It also features a unique crystal-themed variant of wyverns that can be tamed.

Outside the Crystal Islands, the colorful flying dinosaur Tropeognathus makes an appearance; according to Studio Wildcard, it is not the fastest flying dinosaur in the game, but it can increase its range by riding the ocean currents left by other creatures. Once domesticated, it can engage in fierce aerial combat and use its teeth to break down items into their constituent parts. It's like the Flintstones, but more hardcore.

As for anniversary events, Studio Wildcard only hints at "party dodo, interactive cakes, new chibis & surprises, and dazzling unicorns playing over rainbows." Frankly, the "party dodo" got me.

Ark launched on June 4, 2015, but sparked by ongoing anti-racism protests around the world, Studio Wildcard respectfully delayed the launch of both the update and the anniversary event to today.
