Computex 2020 cancelled, to be held as scheduled in 2021

Computex 2020 has been effectively canceled. Usually scheduled for early June, the Taiwanese tech show has been the center of PC hardware launches each year. However, following its postponement to September due to the coronavirus outbreak, it was finally removed from this year's calendar altogether.

Once again, Computex, which will now be held at various locations in Taipei, is back on the schedule for next year: from June 1 to 5, 2021. This means that the one-two punch of Computex and E3 technology and gaming will be held one after the other. The game show, originally scheduled to take place this week, will now be held in Los Angeles from June 15 to 17, 2021.

"The outbreak of pandemic Covid-19 has disrupted major economic sectors worldwide," said a press release from show organizer TAITRA. Many countries have imposed travel restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19." Computex officials, including international exhibitors, visitors, and media, may not be able to attend the show as a result. Therefore, Computex organizers, the Taiwan External Trade Development Administration (TAITRA) and the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), have decided to reschedule Computex to 2021."

Despite the postponement until September, the technology show faced increasing pressure from both attendees and major travel restrictions; major U.S. companies such as Nvidia and AMD were reportedly debating whether to attend the rescheduled show due to employee health concerns, and Taiwan Even local companies in the United States have withdrawn their participation. Many companies that had planned to attend the show locally from Taipei, where the show was held, are also reportedly unsure whether it is appropriate for them to participate in light of measures to prevent the spread of the virus

.

If all went according to plan, AMD was expected to make an announcement at this year's show. The company has announced plans to release RDNA 2 GPUs and Ryzen 4000 CPUs and APUs this year, and in previous years Computex would have been the perfect place to announce details of these upcoming products.

Otherwise, AMD's next generation processors are still on schedule, as are Nvidia Ampere graphics cards to give Radeon a shot in the arm.
