Dean Hall on why the survival game "Icarus" won't play second fiddle to "Ion" and "DayZ".

Today at The PC Gaming Show, Dean Hall announced "Icarus," a free survival game from Rocketwerkz that will be available from Rocketwerkz Icarus appears to be another massively ambitious survival game in which players rocket down from an orbiting space station to gather resources and survive in a hostile alien world. It appears to be another massive and ambitious survival game.

Naturally, Hall, who left Bohemia Interactive years before DayZ was completed and whose 2015 space survival game "Ion," with a trailer, never actually materialized, would release another massive, complex survival game Some PC gamers may be skeptical of Hall's decision to release another large, complex survival game. On this program, Hall talks about Ion, why he left Bohemia Interactive, and how the development of Icarus represents a different situation than his previous survival projects.

"The big thing for me was that Bohemia was an existing company, and I definitely felt like I was pulling them in a direction that was hard for them to go. And they probably felt like I was pulling them in a direction they didn't want to go."

"It was really a bit of a struggle, not only for Rocketwerkz, but for me to grow myself. There were so many things I had to learn. I had to learn a lot of it through failure."

The solution, Hall said, was to make Icarus "not just Dean Hall's game," but a game developed by a team of skilled creators. And we've put together arguably the best team I've ever worked with," he said. That team includes Brian Hicks, former creative director of DayZ, who joined RocketWerkz in April. Hall said he called Hicks to convince him to visit and then join Rocketwerkz, saying, "This is it."

One of the factors that delayed the development of DayZ was that it was originally built on an engine not suited for DayZ; Hall is confident that Icarus, which is developed on the Unreal Engine, will not have that problem.

"For us, Icarus is about creating the game as the engine was designed, adhering to the technical constraints, and basically putting together what has already been done in a unique way at every step.

As for Ion: "It was all CGI trailers.

But it's not just about the technology," Hall said.

But the trailer for Icarus is taken from the game itself, which is already playable. 'We're very confident in where we are,' Hall said. It's playable. Our playtests have been great, and I think that really shows not only my growth, but the strength of the team that we have behind this game.
