EndeavorRx is an FDA-approved game and requires a prescription to play.

EndeavorRx is a brightly colored hoverboard game that looks like any other children's game. Sprint down corridors, avoid obstacles, collect creatures, and choose your look from a rotating list of skins. Requires prescription to play.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration first approved the game for the treatment of ADHD in children ages 8 to 12. It is not available to everyone right now, but once it launches on iOS, the only way anyone will be able to play it is by seeing a doctor and getting a prescription.

"EndeavorRx has been shown to improve attention function as measured by computer-based tests and is the first digital treatment intended to improve symptoms associated with ADHD," reads a press release from the FDA, "as well as any type of first game-based treatment given marketing clearance by the FDA for the condition."

Developer Akili says it is "designed to activate specific nervous systems in the brain." According to one of the five studies in which Akili used data, one in three children had no measurable attention deficit after playing for four weeks. More than 600 children participated in the study.

However, as reported by The Verge, that study, published in the Lancet Digital Health Journal, did not actually recommend games as a treatment for ADHD, stating, "The results of this trial suggest that AKL-T01 should be used as an alternative to established and recommended treatments for ADHD The study results are insufficient to suggest that AKL-T01 should be used as an alternative to established and recommended treatments for ADHD," the authors conclude.

Several of the study's authors are also employees of Akili, and other authors have received funding from Akili or hold stock options in the company.
