Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality Ends at Nearly $8.2 Million

Update (June 16): Itch.io's "Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality" had a big turnout in the last 24 hours, raising nearly $8.2 million for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and raised approximately $8.2 million for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Community Bail Fund.

The bundle eventually grew to include 1704 projects, ranging from well-known indie hits like Night in the Woods and Celeste to smaller, more experimental works like No Brakes Valet and One-Eyed Lee and the Dinner Party 814,679 people donated an average of $10.03, with a maximum donation of $5,000, for a final fundraising total of $8,175,570.67. This money will be split equally between the two organizations.

If you have purchased a bundle but don't know where to jump in, this "Random Bundle Games" tool may be just the thing: click the "help me pick" button and a random game will appear (for example, "Dungeons and Lesbians" is a "heartwarming date with your BFF in the middle of a D&D game" game), but if you are interested in something more specific, you can also apply various filters to narrow down the list by genre, tags, language, accessibility features, etc.

Update (June 15): less than 24 hours left to purchase the most impressive bundle, The Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality, which will benefit the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund.

Update (June 9): Itch.io's Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality has surpassed the $3 million mark just one day after breaking the $2 million mark. The number of games offered has also increased: a new round of additions brings the total number of games included in the bundle to over 1,000. You can get them in just under a week.

Update: Itch's Racial Justice and Equality Bundle has raised over $2 million for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund. Launched a few days earlier on June 6, more than 200,000 people have paid cash since then.

The bundle offers 742 games for just $5, but the average donation is more than double the minimum, at $11.46. The highest amount so far is $5,000. If you can afford it, why not give it a try?

The goal continues to move in line with donations and is now up to $5 million. With only 7 days to go, this is quite feasible.

Original post Hello, would you like 742 games for $5?" is a rhetorical question.

In perhaps the best deal in indie gaming history, itch.io has organized a "Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality". For a minimum donation of $5, you get 742 items by 564 creators.

Contents range from quirky experimental games and games in development to fully released and critically acclaimed indie games; both PC and tabletop games are included in digital format and can be played on a PC. Proceeds from the bundle will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Community Bail Fund to support the anti-racism, anti-police brutality justice protests taking place around the world today.

There are several games here that I would recommend for as little as $5 a piece, let alone $5 in all: Night in the Woods, Minit, Oxenfree, and last year's A Short Hike, all indie favorites. There is also the recently released reaper simulator Death and Taxes. Others I would put in the same pile include: A Mortician's Tale, Overland, Super Hexagon, Verdant Skies, The Night Fisherman, Dorfromantik, Beacon, and Quadrilateral Cowboy".

In the tabletop RPG category, "Mousetrotter," "Lancer," "Blades in the Dark," and "Troika" will serve you well. All four of these games are suitable for online play using virtual tablets.

There are enough good games available to play all year. A bundle for racial justice and equality can be found at itch.io.

Software developer Gregor Santner also shows how to add all the games to the library using a browser script from the bundle page.
