Monument Valley's developer game "Assemble With Care" gets its first free update

"Assemble With Care," the latest from ustwo Games, the team behind the puzzle game "Monument Valley," is a quiet little oasis of a little gem. It's a game that sets itself apart from other puzzlers by doing exactly what it says on the box: assembling things.

The player is Maria, a restorer who has arrived in the town of Belariva. It is not clear what led Maria to seek respite in her new land, but in any case, the story of Assemble With Care is not about her. The town itself and the people who live there are the main characters, and they are brought to life through Maria's descriptions and, of course, through the various items. Maria gets items to fix every day. A walkman, a projector, a watch - none of these items seem special, but they are both necessary and of sentimental value. While you are working, and after you have delivered a given item, the customer will tell you how it broke, what it means to them, and what memories it is tied to.

Repairs don't take long, and most of them are fairly intuitive. With a few clicks, the screws are unscrewed, the casing is opened, the broken gear is removed, and the spring is replaced. It's a short, almost meditative experience.

Currently, Assemble With Care is delivering several additional storylines in the form of free updates, the first focusing on Carmen, a café owner who plays a key role throughout the game's main storyline. On the technical side, Russian voice-overs have been added to Assemble With Care. Other languages will be added in future updates. Each new story focuses on a different resident of Bellariva as they reflect on Maria's visit and assemble themselves.

Assemble With Care is available on Steam and purchases will include the game's soundtrack.
