Valorant will soon be able to pitch early in the game.

In the first of Riot's Ask Valorant blog post series, the developers announced that patch 1.02 brings a much needed feature when all hope is lost: match surrender.

We've all been there. Your team is 10 rounds behind, the enemy is approaching match point, and you want to end up in a crappy game already. Surrender is a great way to save yourself the headache, especially when in-game communication has become toxic.

Some might say that players have to endure discouraging games, but there are more practical uses for surrender. If a teammate has to leave for urgent business or abandons the game without saying a word, it is useful to have the option to throw in the towel and jump into another game.

Riot did not discuss specifics on how this feature would work. One detail that needs to be clarified is whether surrendering in the event of abandonment would offset MMR's gains and losses. It is frustrating to be down in the ranks simply because one teammate was missing, and hopefully this feature will alleviate that.

Riot has not given a firm release date for patch 1.02, but game director Joe Ziegler has tweeted that Valorant's ranked mode will likely be available this week. The entire patch is also expected to be released this week, as the Ask Valorant post clearly states that Competitive will be included in 1.02.
