Titanfall 2 is enjoying a second wind thanks to Steam.

EA once again released a game on Steam without being tied to Origin, adding "The Sims 4" and "Dragon Age: Inquisition" to rival platforms. But it turned out that what people really wanted was "Titanfall 2."

Titanfall 2 launched in 2016, and having learned from the mistakes of the original Titanfall, Respawn did everything right. Most importantly, they didn't divide the community with a season pass or frustrate players with grinding, and they made sure everyone could fight alongside each other in tricky, skill-based battles.

Titanfall 2's multiplayer is the perfect mix of high-speed parkour fights and heavy metal brawls, with agile soldiers using their grappling hooks and super-genius sliding talents to hunt down enemies and jump into huge mechs for explosive The film unfolds in a series of explosive battles. While the game is good enough to stand alone, it comes with an engaging single-player campaign that continues to reign as one of the genre's finest.

"It wouldn't surprise me if I look back on 'Titanfall 2' as one of the best shooters of its time," wrote Chris Thursten in his review of "Titanfall 2. I fear, however, that it will be remembered more as an underground favorite than a deserved hit." It would be a great shame if 'Titanfall' failed to regain its popularity simply because it was released between 'Battlefield' and 'Call of Duty'."

[8 [Unfortunately, "Battlefield 1" and "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" have done just that, pulling players away. However, it has not done so in a way that attracts new players. Players who are familiar with the game may find it extremely difficult to catch up, as they know the game inside and out.

The Steam launch is a blessing, adding thousands of new players. The game has topped global bestseller lists and ranks in the top 100 most-played games on Steam in terms of concurrent players. At its peak, the game has over 9,000 concurrent players, making it more popular than Battlefield 5 and Star Wars Battlefront 2, at least on Steam.

Respawn is not solely focused on battle royale with the release of Apex Legends following Titanfall 2, but no announcement has yet been made about Titanfall 3. In May, Respawn's Vince Zampella said that the series is "a game that is near and dear to everyone at Respawn," but the studio is not working on a sequel. But who knows. Perhaps the reception on Steam will be the catalyst for a return to the series.

Those who want to jump on the Mech can still take advantage of Steam's launch discount: £8.24/$9.89 until July 9
