The company behind the PlayStation 4-exclusive game "The Order 1886" and the Oculus Rift VR series "Lone Echo" has been acquired by Facebook. Mike Verdu, Facebook's VP of AR/VR content, broke the news in a blog post today, confirming that the studio will continue development on "Lone Echo 2"

The acquisition follows Facebook's 2019 acquisition of Beat Saber studio Beat It follows the acquisition of Games; like Beat Games, Ready at Dawn's staff will continue to work from their current offices in California and Oregon, but all will be absorbed into Oculus Studios.

"As with any development studio, the people who make up the studio are critical to its success, and that's no different at Ready At Dawn," said Oculus Studios' CEO, David H. Harris. We admire and intend to maintain the studio's close-knit community and their focus on fostering a passionately engaged gaming community."

Ready at Dawn was founded in 2003 and emerged with game development for the PSP. Its first major console game was the 2015 PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886. Since 2017, the studio's main focus has been VR, particularly the Lone Echo series and its derivatives; Oculus Studios is publishing Lone Echo and its standalone multiplayer component, Echo Arena, is bundled with the Oculus Rift headset.

As for Lone Echo 2, it was originally slated for a 2019 release, but was pushed back to "Q1 2020."

COVID-19 eventually forced the studio to revise that date to the vague 2020 release window.
