Oculus Go will be discontinued this year.

General
Oculus Go will be discontinued this year.

Oculus VR's first standalone headset, the Oculus Go, was a reasonable success, but is now headed for retirement; it will be discontinued this year as Facebook and Oculus want to focus on Quest and Rift.

The success of Quest seems to have sealed its fate; Go is also standalone, but offers six degrees of freedom and tracks body and head movements. It can also be connected to a PC, giving access to more games and more powerful hardware.

The Quest has many advantages over the Go, but it is considerably more expensive, at least compared to the Go. It's currently twice the price of its predecessor; the Go is a great entry-level VR headset, allowing you to see if it's right for you without spending a fortune; Oculus hasn't announced an alternative for those who don't want to shell out £300.

With the Go on the market, Oculus will "double down" on other devices. It has already been announced that they will open up Quest a bit and allow developers to release games on the device without going through the Oculus Store. More details on this change will be announced at a later date.

Support with bug fixes and security patches will continue even after the Go is removed from sale. However, no further features are planned and no new apps or updates will be accepted after December 4. oculus is also urging developers who are creating apps for the Go to start designing apps for Quest.
