New Doom Eternal Update Adds New Multiplayer Maps and More Powerful Demons

A new map, Torment, has been added to the 2vs1 battle mode of Doom Eternal. This map was implemented as part of the game's second major update, which also made several important adjustments to other areas. For example, the frequency of encounters with "empowered demons" has increased.

If memory serves, empowered demons are rare enemies that occur when another player is killed in a campaign. When one player is killed by a daemon, it appears in another player's game in a more powerful form. Sounds cruel, but apparently people like it enough to ask for more examples.

There is footage of that map in the video embedded above. Here's what id Software had to say: "After Slayer stopped Hell from invading Earth, the UAC fled this outpost. Once used as research specimens, the Titans remain eternal prisoners of this evil excavation."

The delay has been eased in battle mode thanks to several fixes, and there are some nice quality-of-life improvements in the UI and customization menus. Several new "render modes" have also been added. You can now play games in black and white, as well as options such as Hard, Cinematic, and Doom Classic.
