Disco Elysium TV series in production.

"Disco Elysium" is one of the best RPGs in years: "Part Planescape: part Planescape:Torment, part police drama, part psychodrama," said Andy Kelly in his 92/100 review. [Variety reports that developer ZA/UM is working with production company DJ2 Entertainment to produce a TV series based on the game. [We are very pleased with the response that Disco Elysium has received and are excited to team up with DJ2 to expand this franchise for other media and new audiences," said screenwriter Helen Hindpair.

Translating the interactive nature of video games to a passive medium like television can be difficult, but "Disco Elysium" may be a good candidate. Most RPGs are combat-centric, but as Andy noted in his review, "Disco Elysium" has "a lot in common with visual novels and point-and-click adventures, with dense, branching dialogue and several novels' worth of brilliant, strange, vibrant Dialogue can make tricky situations menacing, captivating, or bullish.

"Disco Elysium is an extraordinary property with a vast world and endless possibilities." Says Dmitri M. Johnson, CEO and Founder of DJ2.

"The DJ2 team is truly thrilled to be a part of such an incredible opportunity.

Still in its infancy, there is no guarantee that "Disco Elysium" will actually make it to the small screen; Variety reports that no screenwriter or network is currently attached to the project, but DJ2 is currently meeting with potential screenwriters and plans to pitch it later this year The production company is also working with the Vampyre production company, which is the same company behind the Vampyre project. The production company is also under contract to produce live-action television shows based on other video games, including "Vampyr," "Life is Strange," "Ruiner," and "Little Nightmares."
