CD Projekt Red Confirms Censorship of Cyberpunk 2077 in Japan

Cyberpunk 2077 will be slightly different in Japan, CD Projekt Red has confirmed. The modifications for Japan are mainly related to nudity, but will also remove intestines and "genital-shaped objects."

According to a statement provided by CD Projekt Red, the changes were made to comply with the requirements of the Japanese rating agency CERO. In Japan, nude scenes, including those of the main character, will be hidden by underwear.

Other sexual scenes are edited out and "wounds and intestines are edited out." Some signs, graffiti, and "genital-shaped objects" have been edited or removed. Customizable genitalia? Not in Japan.

"The act of dismemberment in combat itself has not been changed in any way," the statement confirms. It also adds that no actual events have been cut from the game, just a slight reduction in the nudity and gore department.

Cyberpunk 2077 has generally received an 18+ rating worldwide, and at least one member of the development team seems pleased. Thankfully, the game will not be banned or censored in Australia, as many had feared.
