DLSS 2.0 makes the RTX 2060 in "Death Stranding" a 4K60 monster

"Death Stranding" is coming to PC and will fully support DLSS 2.0 when it arrives. In other words, it seems that Hideo Kojima's post "Metal Gear" studio's latest title will be upscaled in resolution thanks to Nvidia RTX silicon to extremely high effect.

You can read Andy's impressions of the PC version of "Death Stranding" here, but if you already know the title and can't wait to play it in high fidelity on PC, there's good news: according to Nvidia's press release, and Tom's Hardware's Jarred, and corroborated by preliminary data collected by Jarred, "Death Stranding" could be run at 60 fps or better at 4K on an RTX 20 series graphics card.

Even the entry-level RTX 2060 can run at 77 fps with DLSS performance mode enabled, Tom's reported. In other words, it is not just close to 4K60, it is overwhelming. [Akio Sakamoto, CTO of Kojima Productions, said, "'Death Stranding' already has a reputation for being visually stunning, but Nvidia DLSS 2.0 helps make its debut on the PC something special. Death Stranding" by increasing graphics settings and resolution, allowing the PC platform's vast graphics potential to be tapped.

Note that 4K60 was achieved using DLSS Performance Mode, which may be slightly less accurate than Quality Mode. Nevertheless, as Walton points out, the lack of intense AA in DLSS scenes tends to provide a slightly sharper image when used, at least when compared to TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing). AMD has yet to offer an alternative to Nvidia's AI adaptive upscaling beyond the non-AI adaptive upscaling FidelityFX implementation, and Nvidia appears to be making the most of its lead in on-board AI silicon. We will have to wait until Big Navi and RDNA 2.0 later this year to see the Red Team's rebuttal. We also expect to see more from the Green Team regarding future Nvidia Ampere graphics cards.

Death Stranding will be released on PC on July 14, 2020.
