The ambitious and highly anticipated mod "Team Fortress 2 Classic" was released today. It is a must-have for those who adore the retro TF2, and for those who have never experienced TF2, it is a nostalgic reminder of a bygone era. According to the developers, Team Fortress 2 Classic is "a reimagining of the original Team Fortress 2 from 2008-2009, what we consider the "classic era."

It's a surprisingly well-done mod that covers a lot of ground. It focuses on the original game modes such as Capture the Flag and Special Delivery, but also adds VIP, which is old-school action, and Domination, a variant of King of the Hill. Deathmatch is not included due to the huge amount of additional work required. (This is another mod called Team Deathmatch Classic by another team.)

Most exciting, at least to me, is that the TF2 Classic mod has two 4-team maps. These are domination maps, absolute chaos, with 4 teams fighting over 3 points. Is it a real competitive mode? No, it's really fun."
