The feast of mods we once called "a tremendous feat" just got even more tremendous with a new update: The Dark Mod is a free standalone game built in the tradition of the old Thief series using the old Doom 3 engine. The engine is geared towards detailed stealth games, with an emphasis on sneaking and robbing rather than stabbing and running. It is both a fan game and a flame that keeps the stealth game tradition alive.

The new update takes many radical moves in the game's source engine and updates any basic renderer issues to be compatible with OpenGL 3.1 updates and new features. That's it: the game is more beautiful, and that's a good thing. The particles are cleaner, the shadows are cleaner, the colors are cleaner, and there is even bloom. These improvements are essential for The Dark Mod. This is because The Dark Mod is not a complete game, but rather a huge toolkit for building missions with shared rules.
