The new Test Drive Unlimited game, which was announced in March, has been officially announced. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is being developed by KT Racing, a French studio known for its WRC series and more recently the TT Isle of Man game.

Aside from the customarily vague teaser trailer embedded below, there are only a few broad details: the setting is an open-world island "recreated in 1:1 scale," which suggests that the island may be based on a real world location. The "Solar Crown" is the name of the competition, where "mysterious wagers" are made, and climbing the social ladder seems to be an important part of the progression system; the Steam page says that "social status is everything in the world of TDU," which sounds a little too much like real life to me.

The game will be directed by Alain Jarnieu, who worked on 2007's "Test Drive Unlimited" and later on "WRC 5" and "FlatOut 4". Publisher Nacon specifies that "players compete against each other in Solar Crown," but the Steam page indicates that it can be played by one person.
