Amazon's MMO "New World" Postponed Again

Amazon's fantasy MMO New World has been delayed again. The game was slated for release on August 25, but the studio announced today that based on feedback received from alpha testers, it has decided to delay the release to the spring of 2021.

"We want to give our most dedicated players a full mid to endgame experience as they explore Aeternum. We want our players to be fully immersed in the game and know that our studio offers reliable quality and long-lasting gameplay.

"As a result, we have decided to change the release date and with it the final beta test in Spring 2021. We do not make this decision lightly and there is an urgency to get the game to you as soon as possible with the highest quality and with additions that will make the experience even better.

Instead of a full release, alpha testers, and anyone who pre-ordered "New World" and signed up for the beta, will be given the chance to play the full game as is on August 25 for a "limited time." It is unclear whether everyone who signed up for the beta will be invited, or only a limited number of people, but those who qualify will receive an email with instructions on how to participate.

This is actually the second time New World has been postponed. Originally scheduled for release in May 2020, the launch was postponed in April to August due to development delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is also the second major setback for Amazon Games: on July 1, the company "unreleased" the PvP shooter "Crucible" and returned it to closed beta testing.
