Japanese developer Skeleton Crew today announced Olija, a new game to be published by Devolver Digital and released this year.Olija is a 2D action-adventure platformer in which the protagonist Faraday, a "legendary harpoon He tries to escape from the strange country of Terrafaj, where he has been marooned, using the "legendary harpoon. The game has an indie aesthetic, combining minimalist graphics with sharp action.

Here's the official plot description: "Through adventurous exploration, narration, and sharp combat, players will discover a strange world and its inhabitants. Inspired by swashbuckling tales and cinematic adventure games, Olija is a story of facing the unknown in the face of adversity."

The announcement trailer shows off lots of fast-paced platform combat using the harpoon movement mechanic. Enemies and terrain can be speared, jumped upon, drawn and dragged. The movements and actions are satisfyingly physical. Characters can leap and jump back and forth on their own, or they can wield a variety of weapons, including swords, guns, and spears. Particularly satisfying is the scene in which he takes an opponent's chain-like weapon and throws it off-screen.
