Multiple Ubisoft Executives Resign Amid Workplace Abuse Allegations

Ubisoft has announced that several of its executives have resigned amid a scandal involving allegations of workplace misconduct and harassment. Chief Creative Officer Serge Hascoe, Managing Director of Ubisoft's Canadian studio Yannis Marat, and Global Human Resources Director Cecile Cornet, according to a press release, "in a comprehensive effort to improve and strengthen our workplace culture." As part of the initiative, they stepped down.

"These departures follow the initiation of a rigorous review initiated by the Company in response to recent allegations and accusations of misconduct and inappropriate behavior. The move will also "reorganize and strengthen" Ubisoft's personnel policies and structure.

The statement follows the resignation of Ubisoft Vice President Maxime Belin amid allegations of workplace abuse and a report in the French newspaper Libération that allegedly exposed Ubisoft's toxic work culture. eurogamer has translated a portion of that report, which you can read Eurogamer has a translation of the report. According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, Hascoët was "responsible for all of [Ubisoft's] games" and "could have authorized or canceled the project with one word.

Ubisoft CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot has temporarily assumed the position of Chief Creative Officer. He stated, "Ubisoft has failed in its duty to ensure a safe and inclusive work environment for its employees. The harmful behavior is in direct conflict with the values I have not and will not compromise, and this is unacceptable. I am committed to implementing major reforms across the board to improve and strengthen our workplace culture," Gilmo said.

At tomorrow's Ubisoft Forward event, the company will reveal details about games such as "Assassin's Creed Valhalla," "Watch Dogs Legion," "Hyperscape" and "Far Cry 6." The showcase will be pre-recorded, at which time further statements and details may be released.
