Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's lame "Border Warfare" skin renamed

Even for a sometimes jingoistic series like "Call of Duty," the "Border War" skin for "Modern Warfare and Warzone" seemed largely tasteless, but after much criticism, Infinity Ward acquiesced and renamed

A few months later, the "Border War" skin was released.

The skin, which appeared in Season 3 a few months ago, was accused of glorifying the police, making Infinity Ward's statement of support for Black Lives Matter ring hollow and contributing to the current U.S. administration's aggressive position on immigration.

The game has players dress up as cowboy cops, accompanied by a rather chilling description: "D-Day border war operator skins, showing them the error of their ways and making them pay the price." Whatever Infinity Ward's intentions, it certainly reads like a celebration of violence against illegal immigrants.

On Tuesday, Infinity Ward announced that the name and description had been changed, along with some bug fixes.

The skin itself has not been changed, but is now called "Home on the Range." The new description reads: "Play with deer and antelope with the Home on the Range D-Day operator skin.

This is a nasty fix, and the description doesn't really make sense, even though the skin is clearly inspired by the US Border Patrol. But I'll take dumb over cruel any day.

Last month, Infinity Ward also acknowledged the need to do more to address racist abuse in Modern Warfare, outlining several measures, including a more permanent ban and more resources to monitor and identify racist content. Last week, he removed the "OK" gesture, which has become a symbol of white supremacy.
