Risk of Rain 2 to Launch August 11 with New Characters, New Stages, and a New Server Browser

The third-person roguelike shooter Risk of Rain 2 first appeared on Steam in March 2019 and was an immediate hit, selling over one million copies in the month after its release. However, it was not technically released yet and had been in Early Access for a long time. But after being delayed from spring to summer, Hopoo Games announced today that it will finally release the game in full on August 11.

The launch of the game will also roll out a creatively named launch update, adding a new playable character called Captain. A utility/damage character with a shotgun and rifle combo that stuns enemies and can be charged to narrow the spread of his shots, the Captain is a probe or beacon that provides armor and healing zones for himself and his allies in the Survivor's orbit. He can also call in from dropships.

The update also adds a new stage that takes players to the moon, where the escape story will have a "natural conclusion." New items include the "Molten Perforator," which adds the chance to fire "magma balls" when hitting enemies, and the "Super Massive Leach," which takes away lives, and completing challenges unlocks new skill variations, which will "strategically expand survivor and team composition possibilities even further."

There will also be a server browser that will allow users to create and join dedicated servers with arbitrary difficulty settings and rule voting.

One more thing, the price will be raised from $20 to $25 upon release, so if you are interested, you might want to save $5 and get it before August 11.
