General
Star Wars: The Old Republic" is now available on Steam.

Bioware's MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, launched on Steam.

The game was released in 2011, at a time when EA was trying to get the Origin platform off the ground and didn't want to release games on Steam; it was only recently that EA reintroduced the game to Steam, and today it is finally "The Old Republic."

When it was first released, "The Old Republic" was very ambitious. It was a fully voiced MMO that combined the decision-driven storytelling of Bioware's single-player games with the larger, more social elements of more traditional MMOs.

The core game is free to play, but optional Steam-based subscriptions are available, including an increased level cap and access to the Onslaught, Knights of the Eternal Throne, and Knights of the Fallen Empire expansions, unlimited access to various game modes. While $15/month/£9 may seem a bit steep, there is still a tremendous amount of content in the free games.

Three cosmetic bundles are also available for the Steam version: a Jedi and Sith costume pack for $25/£20 each (the Deluxe Edition is an additional $60/£48), a holographic Rancor toy, and a Vulptira puppy pet, Galactic Leisure Bundle, which includes a Dejarik (the cool holochess from A New Hope) emote.

Note that an external SWTOR client must be installed and running in order to play the game. This will only allow you to manage subscriptions and installations via Steam.
