Halo Ends Friendship with Mount Dew Gamefuel, Makes Monster Energy Its New Best Friend

Is there a more infamous, or orange, video game tie-in product than the legendary Mtn Dew Game Fuel? I don't even drink soda, but I had a can of it on my shelf when Halo 3 came out in 2007, and since the days of Halo 3 and Halo 4, Game Fuel has been rebranded, without Master Chief, into an everyday Mtn Dew spin-off.

Rather than rekindle that relationship in honor of Halo Infinite later this year, Microsoft appears to have ditched Mtn Dew in favor of a new partner: Monster Energy. (Though Mtn Dew has only been focused on Call of Duty for the past few years, so this parting of ways may have been long overdue.)

The Twitter account Halo Collector spotted a new tie-in to Halo Infinite Monster Energy on shelves a little earlier, the day before Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase unveiling. (The unveiling of Halo Infinite. (Monster Energy is unlikely to make an appearance.) The credit for the original image goes to Facebook user Derrick Hunter, who spotted a can of Monster Energy with Master Chief on it and, following his instincts, immediately purchased and photographed it. The world needed to know.

The Monster Energy can promised "2 XP" in Halo Infinite and must be redeemed by December 31, 2020. This is the first confirmation that Halo Infinite will have some sort of XP system, and follows the cosmetic progression system of the last few games. Those who purchased special Halo monster cans will have to wait a few months to use them, unless Infinite's multiplayer beta is imminent.

This is not Monster Energy's first tie-in with a video game brand; Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and most recently Death Stranding have partnered with the energy drink in recent years.
