Norwegian developer Snowcastle has announced that it will return to the world of Earthlock, the 2016 cult game inspired by 1990s turn-based 3D RPGs, for a sequel. (Snowcastle has said since the first game that Earthlock was planned as a trilogy.) Earthlock 2 will take inspiration from action RPGs rather than turn-based games, but will still take place in the world of Umbra. The short announcement trailer shows a landscape blasted in the game's unique style, a hogbunny with a sword, and a small magical mote creature that heals a piece of land and sprouts a new tree.
Earthlock 2's plot is similar to that of the first game and "centers on a group of friends who set out to find and rescue a missing family member." However, the game's description differs significantly from the first: "Earthlock 2 is an open-world action RPG with a complex interlocking system that players can customize at will.
The first Earthlock was a fairly complex, albeit short, turn-based Japanese-style RPG, akin to the Final Fantasy 7 era of the 90s. Earthlock 2 currently has no release date, but it does have a Steam page and you can sign up for their newsletter on the Snowcastle Games website.
