Things have been a bit quiet in the Red Dead Online cowboy sandbox lately, with players dressing up as clowns to spice up their boring lives and show off their frustration with rock stars. A new update brought a new frontier pursuit, Red Dead Online Naturalist, and added an outlaw path.

The naturalist profession puts you in the company of Harriet Davenport, a conservationist. If that sounds more to your liking, you will need to track down the animals, sedate them, and take blood samples.

Your new conservationist friend is not the only one who will be following the seven new legendary beasts that Rockstar has brought into the world. She is joined by big-game hunter Gus McMillan, who wants you to help. [One side is Harriet and the protection of rare animals, the other side is Gus and his plans for the retreat. It should be easy, but isn't one of the main goals of "Red Dead Online" the accumulation of fancy outfits? And only by teaming up with Gus can you get unique clothing made from legendary animals. How distressing!

Naturalists will get mercy killing abilities, animal field guides to aid in tracking, advanced cameras with first-person viewfinders and improved mobility, and new horses and accompanying equipment. Meanwhile, the legendary animal skins will be transformed into hooded coats when given to Gus. In addition to the new coat, the update adds 800 new clothing items and variations.

To find the rarest legendary animals, players must accept missions from Harriet, but "Frontier Pursuit" also introduces three new free-roam events that task players with protecting and tagging animals while poachers are trying to kill them

Until October 19, you can also get Outlaw Path 3 for 40 gold bars: an XP boost, unique weapon customization parts, a new dog, a camera filter, and 40 gold bars back.

Even if you decide not to spend your gold bars on the Naturalist or Outlaw Path, there are some improvements in the update. There are changes to the threat indicator, brighter and thicker directional indicators, new daily challenges and rewards, more clothing combinations, and asynchronous matchmaking that drops players into free-roam while waiting.
