"Necrobarista" is a visual novel about an Australian cafe that entertains the dead on their way to the afterlife. Jodie, who herself is Australian and knows a thing or two about such things, liked it a lot. In his 80/100 review, he said, "Brilliantly presented, the camera finds interesting angles in every scene, and the story hits all the emotional beats, whether dealing with loss or puns."
One of his complaints is that the game's narrative threads hang remarkably loose. 'Three characters appear in the middle of the game and then quickly disappear. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if there had been more interactivity and a larger cast."
These concerns may soon be at least partially addressed. Since the game has been released and is apparently doing reasonably well, developer Route 59 announced today the availability of free DLC, including additional gameplay and story.
"Maddie's story is complete for now, but if you're wondering about pesky teenagers Tuan and Hannah, secretive and sulky Samantha, or that guy with the waistcoat and cigar from the OP, you needn't bother anymore. Beginning later this year, several chapters (!) of a side story set in "The Terminal" featuring these characters will be will be released as DLC at no additional charge.
The first planned DLC will be purely gameplay-focused and will include some reworking and additions, but no details are available at this time. At the same time, the developers are also working on patches to improve the gameplay, the latest of which will be released today.
Thanks, USgamer.
