Microsoft Confirms Free "Halo Infinite" Multiplayer

Update: Microsoft has now confirmed that the leak was accurate and that Halo Infinite's multiplayer is indeed free to play. More details to follow.

Original story here:

The Xbox Series X page at retailer Smyths Toys has briefly posted some new information about "Halo Infinite". Of particular interest is the claim that it will feature a "Free-to-Play multiplayer experience." The section was later removed from the page, but not before it was captured for posterity.

After the cat was out of the bag, Xbox leaker Klobrille made the same claim, adding new customization options to the Battle Pass system and Halo series.

At the recent Xbox Games Showcase, 343 Industries showed off a bunch of campaign footage, but the multiplayer remains largely a mystery. As a core element of the series, the lack of details is noteworthy and may suggest that 343 is trying something a little different with Infinite.

While the Master Chief Collection allowed prospective players to participate in various major testing phases, it was difficult for 343, working from home, to put something similar together for Infinite. However, in a new community update, community manager John Junyszek said

that he hopes to hold a public hands-on before Infinite launches this winter.
