Spider-Man appears in "The Avengers," but only in the PlayStation version.

In the film world, Sony is willing to share Spider-Man with Marvel Studios in order to make billions of dollars. But in the world of video games, especially the upcoming Marvel's "The Avengers," Sony is keeping Spidey under tight wraps. Crystal Dynamics announced Monday that Spider-Man will join the Avengers team next year as a post-launch update. [Spider-Man, as previously promised, will be available at no additional cost to anyone who owns the base game.

The developer had previously stated that more characters would be added after launch, which doesn't sound great for the first title announced as being exclusive to a single console, although Marvel's Avengers will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Stadia, No word on when the DLC character will appear on these platforms, or if another hero will take Spider-Man's place.

The reply to Monday's PlayStation Blog tweet is a predictable mix of anger and console war trolling: given the large number of potential players on PC and Xbox, announcing an exclusive title just a month before launch is terrible timing! It seems - especially since Marvel's "The Avengers" had a rough beginning and is finally starting to attract people in recent weeks.
