1TB Solid State Drive now only $82

Is your 512GB or 256GB SSD starting to feel cramped? If so, it's time to upgrade. The good news. You don't have to shell out the big bucks for a larger drive; Newegg has a 1TB Team Group GX2 SSD for $81.99 right now.

This is $23 less than list price, making it the most affordable 1TB-class SSD, especially from a well-known brand. As priced, you'll pay about $0.08 per gigabyte, which is pretty good for the SSD segment. This is a few cents less per gigabyte than Crucial's MX500, which is one of the best SSDs for gaming.

The GX2 is a 2.5-inch drive with a SATA 6Gbps interface; it's not as slick as an M.2 form factor drive and not as fast as an NVMe model. But for gaming, a 2.5-inch SSD is sufficient. The only caveat is that the situation may change when the next generation of game consoles arrive and developers begin to devote resources to take advantage of faster SSDs.

But that is a discussion for another day. At the moment, 2.5" SSDs are as good as M.2 NVMe SSDs for gaming on PCs. In this case, Team Group rates the GX2 as capable of up to 530 MB/sec sequential read and 480 MB/sec sequential write

.

If you want to save another dollar, Team Group's 960GB GX1 is also available at Newegg for $80.99. As far as I can tell, other than the capacity options, the GX1 and GX2 specifications are all the same: same speed rating, same endurance (1 million hours MTBF). My advice GX2 has an additional 40GB.
